About the Property

Inside: the guest accommodation, which was totally refurbished in 2009, is on the ground floor of the Palazzo and set around the garden. It has a private entrance from the street, and both accommodation and gardens enjoy complete privacy from the rest of the palazzo and the town. The living areas, two double bedrooms and two suites each comprising a double and a twin bedroom all have independent access from the garden.
The living areas include a large entrance hall leading from the garden to a reading room featuring two sofas, a living room with 14th century vaulting, an open fireplace and inviting TV corner, a large dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. The first double bedroom is a large room that has a sitting area in front of the stone fireplace and an en-suite bathroom. The second double is just as large, with a sitting area and en-suite bathroom. The third and fourth bedrooms share an entrance from the garden and a bathroom. They are very comfortable, though slightly smaller than the first two. The third room is a double and the fourth room, a twin which may be made up as a double, is located up a spiral stone staircase from the third, and has a particularly low ceiling. The fifth and sixth bedrooms also share an entrance. The entrance hall hosts twin beds that can be made up as a double, and the main bedroom has a large double bed.

Outside: much of your time at Palazzo Ducale Guarini will probably be spent in the superb private garden, which is very much at the centre of life in the guest’s accommodation. It is an historic garden based on the original 19th century plan and features a vast array of trees and plants, including some unexpected and rare species amongst the fruit trees and flowering plants, a beautifully designed fountain, and the recent edition of a pool, built on the basin once used for irrigating the garden. Breakfast may be taken at the wrought iron tables in the shade of the citrus trees, supper poolside making use of a shaded barbeque area.
Walk out of Palazzo Guarini and you're in the middle of Scorrano, a charming town to explore.

Think About

A superb palazzo in a great location. Note that the palazzo provides totally private accommodation for up to 8 people in four double rooms. Use of the second bedroom in each of the last two units described, results in some loss of privacy. A small, very minor road running past the far end of the garden can occasionally be heard in the pool area, though does not, in our experience disturb.

The Area

Exploring the local Area

One of the great attractions of Palazzo Ducale Guarini is its location in the centre of the town of Scorrano, which has a charming square, a market, an osteria/restaurant and assorted bars and shops. Scorrano itself is in an excellent position for exploring all that Salento has to offer. It's just twenty minutes drive from the fortress city of Otranto on the Adriatic coast, and half an hour from "the capital of Baroque" that is Lecce. The neighbouring town of Maglie, just 3km up the road, is a jewel of Baroque in itself, and famous locally for its evening passeggiata and all the fashionable activity that goes with that. The Ionian cost is not far either, with the stunning town of Gallipoli just 40 minutes drive away.
