A stunning, top-of-the-range Masseria set in 70 hectares of woodland and olive groves

Sitting just outside the wonderful baroque centre of Ostuni, Masseria Lamacoppa is a rare find indeed. Every detail, from the meticulous styling of each living space, to the vast pool, the Jacuzzi and the Turkish bath, is designed to satisfy even the most demanding guests. And this is a house that has hosted many such guests...

"Just to let you know that we had a fantastic time. The service in the villa was excellent and the villa itself just beautiful. " Lisa Grilli Blair, UK, June 2011

“A 17th-century manor house on the outskirts of the baroque town of Ostuni has been transformed into Masseria Lamacoppa - a six-room villa... Located at the end of a long private road, the villa is great for those who want to sample life in the southern Italian countryside, and is ideal for families or groups of friends holidaying together.” Condé Nast Traveller expert review and recommendations, 29th July 2010.

About the Property

Inside: the main gates of Masseria Lamacoppa open into a walled courtyard filled with Moroccan lemon trees, to one side of which is the main house.

The ground floor hosts a series of living rooms and the kitchen characterised by their high vaulted ceilings. The thick stone walls open out on each side to walled courtyards, ensuring a continuous flow of cool air even at the height of the most torrid summer. The living areas and reception rooms are sublimely decorated and furnished and include a TV room and various reading and relaxing rooms. Accommodation on this floor is completed by a guest bathroom and a spacious reading room that also doubles as a dining room when the weather does not permit al fresco dining.

The first floor is home to four double bedrooms and a twin bedroom, all of which have en-suite bathrooms and views over the courtyards and surrounding woods and olive groves. The sixth double bedroom, again with en-suite bathroom, is accessed just a few metres across the courtyard from the main house.

Outside: arrival at Masseria Lamacoppa is via a driveway that weaves through the olive groves. Arrival is signalled by the imposing facade of the Masseria, which appears much as it would have done hundreds of years ago.

The main courtyard, with its Moroccan lemon grove, has several shady corners furnished for relaxation. On one side the original stables have been opened out to accommodate a long dining table. This area may be candle-lit to atmospheric effect for the evening.

The second courtyard, on the other side of the house, is also equipped with a shady dining table. The original stonework is beautifully contrasted by the emerald lawns and the olive trees. A gate from this courtyard leads out into the olive groves.

About 150 metres from the main house is the pool, so beautiful that even the hardened eyes of Huw and Rossella moistened the first time they laid eyes upon it! A gentle incline leads one into the refreshing waters, whose cobalt hue is given by the black pool lining. The pool area is huge, and an ingenious canal leads to a Jacuzzi area that will fit a dozen people comfortably.
The pool is surrounded by lawns and a rich canopy of trees. To one is a stone building housing a kitchen, the gym, a Hammam with seats for ten and a massage table...

The Area

Exploring the local Area

Masseria Lamacoppa is situated in 70 hectares of rolling land, including protected woods and olive groves. Given the beauty of the place you will be hard pressed to leave it. Should you, however, resist the temptation to stay put, your efforts will be well rewarded by some of the gems of the surrounding area. The nearest town, Ostuni, is a beautifully restored baroque masterpiece offering panoramic views across the hills towards the sea. The Valle d'Itria, however, is probably best known for its trulli, and nowhere are these more in evidence than in the picture-postcard town of Alberobello. Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca are also well worth a visit. If you are looking for beaches, the Adriatic coast offers endless stretches of sand and some well recommended lidos from which to enjoy it. Further afield, Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto and Monopoli are justly famous towns waiting for you to unlock their secrets.
